Mel Langton is a Lincoln based designer and illustrator whose work encompasses both digitally created pieces and traditional painting techniques and has a passion for depicting strong, inspirational female characters.
Having moved from Leicester to study Graphic Design and Illustration at De Montford University in Lincoln, Mel graduated in 2001 with BA (Hons) Illustration, in which she chose to specialise.
Mel produces a range of colourful and bold artwork and her recognisable style encompasses both digitally created pieces and more traditional painting techniques.
Mel’s love of feisty female characters was intensified through her days on track playing the full contact sport of roller derby, with the Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls uniform still carrying her design.
Music, lifestyle and alternative culture also play a huge part as influences within Mel’s work.
Recent commissions include artwork for the British Blues Award winning band King King, being chosen to design one of the Barons for the very popular Lincoln Barons’ Charter Trail in 2015 and last year she was commissioned to paint three Knights for the Lincoln Knights’ Trail.
Mel also regularly exhibits her artwork in both solo shows and collective exhibitions and is now working on pieces for her first solo exhibition in five years, which will be at the Gallery at St. Martins 30th July to 5th August.
