Louth Concert Society – International Classical Chamber Music
Celebrating 75 years of showcasing classical music in Louth, Louth & District Concert Society is a charitable organisation that welcomes all to come along and enjoy beautiful music.
The society was founded in 1943 to provide a platform for showcasing both new talent and seasoned performers, and the charitable objectives include developing music in education and its appreciation through public concerts and recitals.
Over the years we have been delighted to present stellar performers such as pianist Moura Lympany, composer Benjamin Britten, contralto Kathleen Ferrier and pianist Peter Donohoe, some (then!) rising stars as Julian Lloyd Webber, as well as chamber orchestras such as The Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields. In recent years programmes presented by our society have included such brilliant emerging talents as Jamal Aliyev (cello), Alexander Panfilov (piano), Bartosz Glowacki (accordion) and The Villiers String Quartet.
Our concerts aim to introduce classic repertoire and new music to all ages; the Salvation Army Hall is a warm and invitingly intimate venue, offering a close-up and more personal interaction with the performing artist.
Jamal Aliyev held us spellbound when he appeared in both 2015 and 2017; he has subsequently been a soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra at The Royal Albert Hall in August 2017, performing at the BBC Proms ‘John Williams 85th Birthday Celebration’.
Bartosz Glowacki, an excellent ambassador for the accordion, played for us a varied and extremely enjoyable set of modern pieces. At first glance his music programme appeared avant garde and somewhat challenging, but Bartosz’s easy manner and engagement with his audience made for a very memorable and artistically impressive recital. Bartosz has subsequently worked with Nigel Kennedy and Trevor Pinnock.
