The beautiful medieval St James’ Church, fondly referred to as ‘The Cathedral of the Wolds’ offers throughout the year a varied and numerous programme of events.
With a seating capacity in excess of 600 in the main body of the Church (naive and side aisles) the Church is a wonderful venue for musical events. St Stephen’s Chapel is a perfect setting for more intimate soirees.
At the Western end stands a lovely area ‘Under the Tower’ in the environs of the coffee shop a further setting for events such as the July and August series of ‘Lunchtime Concerts’ that take place.
St James’ is fortunate to host a resident choir (boys, girls and adults) which enhances regular worship and festal celebrations throughout the Church’s calendar.
Choral productions such as Pergolesi’s ‘Stabat Mater’ and Mendelssohn’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ have been concert highlights.
Regular musical performances within the Church are presented for public enjoyment and appreciation by the following societies:
Louth Male Voice Choir
The Choral Society
The Chamber Choir
The Meridian Singers
Sinfonia Viva
Over recent years the Church has been privileged to host famous international artists Lesley Garrett, Chris Maltman, Maria Kesselman and The Academy of St Martins In The Fields.
